Sustainability
Our Ivovoani bee farm, located in the semi-arid landscape of Ngaamba, Makueni County, is a testament to our commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agriculture.
Reforestation and Native Flora Conservation
Our reforestation programme aims to regenerate native flora on the Ivovoani bee farm, which provides resident bee colonies with forage. Through natural regeneration and tree planting of native and horticultural flora, we ensure a continuous supply of bee forage. Installing beehives accelerates the natural regeneration of native flora, with bees acting as a deterrent to animal damage. Our Ivovoani bee farm is a biodiverse positive carbon sink.
Bee Welfare
Feral bee colonies find a safe haven on our Ivovoani bee farm. By continuously installing hives, we create sanctuaries for migratory and absconding colonies. Small dry land colonies thrive in our innovative Novala top-bar hives. A high beehive colonization rate is proof of excellent dry land beehive design and the ideal ecological conditions at our model farm.
Model Agroforestry and Learning Hub
Our Ivovoani bee farm is more than just an apiary—it is a model agroforestry farm that integrates apiculture, horticulture, and the propagation of native flora. We facilitate immersive learning experiences for aspiring and seasoned beekeepers to inspire others to replicate our approach. By demonstrating the sustainable integration of beekeeping, horticulture, and forestry, we aim to foster sustainable practices that can be adopted by farmers and landowners everywhere.
